Displacement-based design procedure of grouted anchoring systems for the seismic upgrade of heritage buildings

A displacement-based design procedure is proposed to control the out-of-plane motion of masonry walls during seismic events by means a Grouted Anchoring System (GAS) and Dissipative Systems (D-GAS). Combining non-linear static capacity in three different configurations (unstrengthened, strengthened with GAS or D-GAS) inelastic demand spectra gives expected performance system, which then compared set damage thresholds corresponding progression from linear nonlinear behaviour system. The method validated comparing evolution wall’s rocking obtained time-history analysis for acceleration adapted spectrum used analysis. results highlight that D-GAS provides optimal solution as it controls amplitude while dissipating energy through friction. This allows reduced number required anchors, thus less invasive intervention, beneficial especially applications historical building aesthetic value.
